DIFFERENCES BETWEEN

HEADSET VR

&

PC VR

In a nutshell:

  • Standalone VR headsets run entirely on their built-in mobile phone-style processors, so graphics are limited. A single server PC synchronises all headsets for multiplayer gameplay.

  • PC VR connects each headset to a dedicated gaming PC (via cable or wireless link) providing extremely high-quality graphics, with the PCs networked together for multiplayer play.

The videos above show both types of titles and identifies the PCVR from the Standalone headset titles.

Standalone Headsets

The Pico 4 headsets feature powerful Android-based processors, enabling them to run immersive virtual reality content independently—without the need for a high-end PC.

While standalone performance does not match the graphical fidelity of PCVR, the Pico 4 delivers engaging and commercially viable content, particularly through its exclusive multiplayer experiences that continue to attract paying customers.

We provide the broadest selection of VR titles in the market, ensuring that visitors to your venue can always find the right experience—whether they’re seeking excitement, immersion, or innovation.

Only titles made specifically for the Android system, and its capabilities, will run on a standalone system.

People who have purchased headsets for home use can easily run this quality of title on their headsets. For multiplayer though, specialist titles, a control system, multiple headsets, and lots of space, are required.

We only offer titles exclusively available for location-based entertainment use. Free roam multiplayer titles are not available for home use.

PC VR

PCVR (PC-based virtual reality) delivers a far superior experience compared to standalone VR in nearly every technical and immersive aspect. By connecting to a powerful gaming PC, PCVR headsets can harness far greater processing power, allowing for dramatically higher-resolution graphics, richer textures, and complex environments that simply aren’t possible on standalone devices. This translates to smoother frame rates, deeper realism, and fewer compromises in visual fidelity — key factors for total immersion.

Another major advantage is flexibility. PCVR supports a huge library of games and simulations across multiple platforms, giving access to thousands of high-end titles. With external tracking systems and precise controllers, movements are captured with incredible accuracy, enhancing presence and realism in every interaction. While standalone VR is convenient and portable, it often sacrifices detail, responsiveness, and long-term performance. PCVR remains the choice for professional virtual reality venues, and those who want the very best virtual reality has to offer — unrestricted power, precision, and immersion.

From a technical standpoint, the system is vastly more advanced than any standalone VR setup. The PC delivers ultra-high-quality graphics and complex environments that must be streamed directly to the headset — either via high-speed cabling or, for the most seamless experience, through a purpose-built wireless network designed exclusively for VR performance. Only in recent years has this level of wireless fidelity become possible. Infinity VR has been at the forefront of this breakthrough, driven, and made possible by our dedicated team of VR and networking specialists who have perfected the art of delivering uncompromised, high-end PCVR experiences anywhere, including the Atlantic ocean aboard the Queen Mary 2.

Infinity VR have uniquely created an entire PCVR arcade system (also capable of standalone VR, as standard) in a single, portable unit, with up to 12 PCVR stations, including video display processing, networking and computer systems management.
